The Joshi surname is of (predominantly) Brahmin origin, & reside from several parts of India, like Punjab or Gujarat etc. They are and believe in a special purity which could be from vegetarianism to abstinence; thus keep the blood line pure when it comes to marriage (marrying only Brahmins, within the same caste). Have been known to hold wide variety of professions including but not limited to doctors, politicians, actors etc.
