You actually have to set the transform property of the layer with a call to: layerToAnimate setTransform:combinedTransform as well. That would make sense as to why my code is not working. I read through the Core Animation Programming guide and a lot of the CA docs, but I never read that anywhere. Do you know if Apple states anywhere in their docs that animation on the root CALayer is disabled?

Opacity animated as expected. According to your answer this shouldn't work. Or am I misreading?

It turns out you can turn the layer animation on for the root layer by setting its delegate property to nil. I don't know if it's good practice.
Setting your layerToAnimate delegate to your rootView. Layer works: viewToAnimate.layer. Delegate = rootView.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
