Your developer will have to suck it up and learn how to use a modern SCM - the best you can do is give him options. Both SVN and GIT have Visual Studio integration (via different add-ins or plugins to Visual Studio) in addition to the Tortoise* shell integration.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
