Coffee drinkers. Does anyone actually taste the first cup in the morning? I don't think I do.
I so enjoy the first cup that I drink it to fast. The second never tastes as good. Anyone else?

Yep, I sure do. I typically drink only one mug or container of coffee per day. And, that first sip is the primary taste experience I crave every day.In fact, when I am alone, I take the first sip right after making the mug of coffee, slurping it similarly to the way a wine taster will taste wine...but, I don’t spit the coffee out!
:) I am no coffee connoisseur, but I consider myself quite particular when it comes to coffee. I prefer Indonesian coffees--e.g. , Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, etc. Guatemalan coffees are also very much to my taste. To prove that I am not a purist, I will usually take a little bit of heated milk in my coffee.
But, I will never add any flavoring like cinnamon or vanilla. Lately, I have started to drink Ugandan "delicious peace" coffee. Frankly, I prefer the taste of Indonesian coffees.
But, I like 2 things about this Mirembe Kawomera coffee very much: It is produced by a cooperative of Jewish, Muslim and Christian growers, eager to promote interfaith harmony, and The cooperative is structured to deliver a "just" economic return to its growers. Evidently, many coffee growers are compensated at a very low rate fostering serf-like indentured servitude. This cooperative guarantees a certain price (I think it is a little more than $1 per pound) to the grower.
Those of you involved in religious institutions may find this product appealing, especially if your institution is interested in interfaith relations. The photo above taken from the website link below is the label on each bag. OK, I am not marketing this product.
I certainly don’t benefit financially if you buy a bag of this coffee vs. Dunkin Donuts coffee (which I do not like at all). But, when I learned of it, it struck a chord with me. As I already said, if I were shopping based on taste alone, I prefer other types of coffee.
These days we are grinding and drinking a Ugandan/Sumatran blend at home--to balance my sense of taste with my sense of justice. I agree with you that a 2nd (or 3rd) cup rarely tastes as good as the first. But, for me, the first sip sets the tone for the entire experience.

Good to the last drop My first cup is my only cup of coffee and I do relish all 12 oz. Of it. Occasionlly I have a second cup and that is "special" so I relish it more..
That entirely depends on what coffee it is. If it's what I call "garbage coffee," the CostCo Folgers/Yuban/Maxwell House 5 pound tub of cheap, pre-ground stuff that my wife drinks, no. If it's the Black Forest Cake flavored stuff I stumbled upon, heck yeah.
Even my daughter lets me make hot coffee for her when it's that stuff. But if you're talking about the coffee made from the beans that have made the full trip thru the digestive system of your cat, there, all bets are off.
I love every single cup I have LOL! Yes, sometimes I want it so bad that I too will drink it fast. But no way does the second or the third or the fourth or the fifth or the six or the seventh or the eighth cup of coffee not taste as good as the first.
Yyummmmmmmmmmyyyyy! C C C C C C C C C C C C C C okay maybe more than 8 LOL! .

2 I enjoy EVERY cup I drink. However, I have noticed that the first cup can sometimes be better -- but I've chalked that up to how long it sits in the pot on the heater. If it sits there on the heat for a while, I think that deteriorates the flavor.

I like this too ~ not as much as coffee, but I like it. It is on my mug this chilly morning. " "How many cups of coffee do you drink a day?" "Why do people drink alcohol for the taste?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
