Coloring gray hair with natural henna - can I avoid the 2-step process? Any henna color that will cover gray OK?

I'm a brunette and have been doing the 2-step henna process for about 10 years as my hair has gradually gotten more gray. It's now about 50% gray. My hair is fine and it cannot take chemical dyes because they totally ruin the texture, so henna is my only option. I know Avigal Henna makes some colors for gray, but it sounds like they only "add shine" to your gray hair, they don't color it.Is that correct?

I have never actually found henna to be effective on Grey hair. That being said Avigal will cover the gray ONLY if your doing a darker color and it requires a 2 step process. There are several other Henna companies that "say" they cover gray...find them at Health food shops.

Gray hair is extremely porous....and very hard to not only cover..but have the color last. If you want to steer cleaR OF MAJOR chemicals. I highly recommend Bigen or Waterworks.

Both are specifically made to xover gay without Peroxides..and because they are a STAIN rather than a color they last a very long time. I don't personallt have gray hair, but I do get gray/white in my eyebrows--go figure. I use the waterworks on my eyebrows and it works so great.

Both BIGEN and Waterworks are jello/gel like products...no dripage. If you have really long ahir it will require a fe boxes. Henna is nice....but its alot of work.....and on Gray it rally won't give you the coverage for any length of time.

Also you can add GRAY MAGIC...a great product I have used on clients for over 20 years. Add a few drops to any haircolor....or in yiur shampoo..it will make your product last longer. Using a shampoo with color in it....every 3rd shampoo will also help to extend color life.

Trust me..I have baby baby fine hair and a TON of it.....Henna is NOT your only option! I've been using henna for more than 20 years and really, the instructions they give about covering are just plain wrong! They say you can only use a darker color to cover gray. Not!

I'm a natural redhead who is now mostly gray. You can use any lighter color you want and as will make your hair look frosted or give it high lights! I use Avigal Henna's "Champagne" color and mix it with a tablespoon of "Red" so it gives strawberry red highlights.

Henna ONLY shows color on gray, so wherever you have gray, you will have high lights if you use a lighter color than your natural color. I am in my late 60's and at least, once a month, a total stranger will stop me and tell me how beautiful my hair is! If you want natural looking highlights, I would use their color "Champagne".

I applied it to a friend's hair who is a brunette and where she had gray, she now has a sunstreaked look. She gets tons of compliments on her hair. And, with natural henna, you don't have any of those horrible chemicals being absorbed into your brain!

I love it! Also, if you are older and using it to cover gray, the lighter colors over your gray are so much more youthful. Feel free to ask me questions.

1 You have to be careful using henna on gray hair, as it can turn it orange. They do have a henna that is supposed to only condition. I'm pretty sure it doesn't color your hair. It's the 'Natural' shade.

You could do a strand test. That's advisable anyway. My mother colored her hair with henna all of her life, and she added a big tablespoon of powdered cloves to the powder, and used brewed coffee instead of water to make the paste. This helped to tone down the shade.

She would leave it on for three hours. What a process, but it was beautiful. They do have some very gentle dyes out these days that don't use ammonia, like 'Natural Instincts', for example.

Your hair even feels healthier and softer after using it because they put alot of great natural herbs and vitamins in it to nourish your hair and deeply condition it. Good luck! .

3 Eve I have gray hair and have been using Avigal aurburn henna for the past 5 or 6 years. I don't do the two step process what happens is that the gray hairs turn a lighter shade and look like highlights. I'm about 25 percent gray.

I do have to touch up the front hair line every two weeks. I you have been putting henna in your hair and decide to change over you need to wait for the henna build up to wear off other wise there will be a chemical reaction and your hair could turn green. Always make sure to do a patch test.

4 I just remembered a very important point. Avigal directions say to leave the henna on for 45 minutes. I leave mine on for 4 hours That may be the reason that I get more coverage.

How do I get black hair color out I want my natural brown.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
