This is not about conservatism or conservative principles. It's about the Republican Party. Confusing 'conservative' and 'Republican' is like speaking loudly to a blind person because you think he's having trouble hearing you.
(Lots of people do that!) Anyway the GOP is all about getting into power, getting their hands back on the controls to steer the Ship of State. They have an agenda, a party agenda, not someone's personal agenda. For several elections now, going back at least to GHW Bush, party leaders have chosen their nominee long before the primaries even started.
They don't trust their voters to pick a standard-bearer! They want someone to serve as a front-man, as a spokesmodel for the Party Agenda, not his own agenda. GHW Bush, Bob Dole, GW Bush, McCain, Romney, all represented the Party Agenda.
All the 'serious' candidates in all these elections, as different as they were, all had the same positions on the same issues. Trump is not a party guy. He has his own agenda!
The philosophy of the GOP has gone so off-the-deep-end that a guy like Trump has a very good chance, even without support from the party leadership (and ownership). So he's worse than a Democrat in a way, because if he gets elected they have no control over him! They totally resent him running on THEIR party!
But they're afraid to just kick him out for fear he'll run as a third-party candidate. This comes at a very bad time for the party because this is an extremely important election for them. Their party is fractured and they have to find some way to pull the factions together, but Trump is forcing them apart!
They're seeing now that it was a bad idea to get into the Culture Wars, and they're losing them. They were going to have a hard enough time winning this election but with Trump they will lose bigger than ever. They hoped he'd flame out long before the primary season, but Iowa and New Hampshire are just around the corner now and he's still No.
1 by a growing margin. Hardly any Republican today can name TWO GOP candidates! It's a Perfect Storm against the GOP's desperate play for the White House.
It'll be interesting to see how this works out over the next few weeks and months.
Prominent conservatives support only the 1% and for that you need control. The GOP leaders don't have the money Trump does and therefore can't control him.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
