Of course. OpenJDK will embrace code contributions that augment the Java SE platform such as with new ports, research projects and other improvements including code Sun will not test or integrate into its own products. Criteria for how contributed code will be deemed appropriate for OpenJDK is still under discussion (e.g. , application code will likely not be considered appropriate).

Sun plans to identify interim criteria shortly and final criteria will be defined in the OpenJDK Constitution. This is no different from other open-source projects and code commons, where the community, through governance processes, decides what goes into the commons, but then distributors who construct products and distributions from that commons have the latitude to create targeted distributions that address specific markets and commercial opportunities. I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
