No. Almost everything is different HDMI and ethernet are both wires. That's about the end of it.

HDMI uses different conductors, different frequency, different terminating software on each end than Ethernet. Compared to an HDMI cable spec, ethernet is primitively simple. I suppose theoretically you could do this, but not with any existing hardware/software package that exists on the planet today.

You would need to rewrite the HDMI driver on the laptop to talk to the WAN processor and network card. You would need to disable the video driver's output to the HDMI as well. Then, you would need to know how the HDMI cable does its work (stregnth, attenuation, etc.) to ensure that you got the right signal to the Direct TV box.

Then you would need to hack them DirectTV box (totally against their rules) so that it could decode the incomoing ethernet signal from the HDMI, NOT route that the DVR video processor, and force it to go to the network card on the DirecTV instead. And then, assuming that was working, you would need to get into the DirecTV Opersating system to give control over the incoming data to thast software so you could watch it on TV. Like I said, there is a theoretical possibility, but it's one hell of a lot of R&D and development.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
