A .380 for target practice, I thought .380 was pricey. Any way I would recommend a 12 gauge pump action with a Improved Cylinder or Modified choke or saw down a barrel to 22 inches Cylinder. You could pick up an older used 12 gauge pump in good condition for around $150-200.
Get some 12 gauge Rifled Slugs and you'll be good to go. There is also a Mosin Nagant M91-30 in 7.62x54R which is like a .30-06 or .308 Win. Some also compare it a 7mm Rem, Any way for a rifle in military condition with a sling and everything can be found for $80-150.
Then buy a hunting stock for $60-70 from ATI if you want and get some Brown Bear 203 grain Soft Point ammo. Both weapons are excelelnt choices. Mosin Nagant is better for longer ranges.
Shotgun has more purposes with different rounds but you want you ALWAYS use slugs for bear. Mosin Nagant is better for plinking you get 20 rounds of surplus for $7. The surplus rounds could probably drop a bear but Soft Point is better.
Wow, I didn't know Tula made ammo. It has mixed reviews tough. The only .380 I've known are my mom's and she almost never shoots them and only has one box of ammo for cc.
Also worry about Mountain lion attacks at night and be cautious in the day. Bear attacks in the day and don't leave any food out and watch your dogs. Most confrontations can be handle with loud nosies and making your self look big.
Mountain lions won't attack unless they have the element of surprise. Some have been known to attack if the have rabies. Black Bear would rather run then fight unless they have cubs or you surprise them.
Black bear charges are usually false and they just want to size you up. If you fall over and cuddle they will attack. If a black bear is charging look as big and threatening as possible and he should stop by 30 yards and walk away.
If he doesn't stop by 30 shoot him till he drops center mass shots or get in the feeble position.
A 308 with a 180 grain soft point will work fine.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
