DateTime.Parse() should work just fine in most cases, unless you want users to use a specific format.
The date parameter must be in the exact format specified. Your format is MM/dd/yyyy, yet you provided a date of 10/1/2012. This date has 1 digit for the day, you specified 2 digits for the day.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
