First, you start writing a book by starting to write. That's it. You do not need to join a writing community, you do not need to download writing manuals, you need to start writing.
Be it on paper or a computer or with a stick in the sand. That being said, yes of course you can take inspiration from Shelagh Delaney. Don't copy her story, don't copy her characters, but maybe find some small idea that you love and turn it into something all your own.
-I read this somewhere and I don't remember where so I cant exactly give proper credit but it's like hiding a gem in a forest. Take some small idea - like maybe the idea of a talking rabbit who does magic really inspires you- and hide it in a forest (your story). Build a whole new world around him and in the end, no one will realize that this rabbit came from Story X and they will instead believe you are the magical creator of the magical talking bunny.
Do you at least catch my drift? You can get inspiration from music, other works, tv shows, movies, traveling, pictures, your cats, the weather, your life, etc, etc, etc. Inspiration comes from anywhere, but you cant be looking for it- it will come to you. Don't listen to a song and think, this song will inspire me to write the next big thing.
Doesn't work that way. Just start writing. By asking a million questions you are really just getting in the way of yourself.
START WRITING and the rest is history. There are a million writing blogs out there and with any basic google search you can find them. If you feel you need some support maybe that is what you need.
Someone else to tell you to just write. Every writer will tell everyone who asks "how can I be a better writer?" or "how can I get published" to write. You have to just write, and not ask questions about it.
You don't need permission, you don't need someone holding your hand, you need to write. Also You shouldnt need to ask - is this a strong plot, what should I name these characters, etc. Go with your heart and follow your instincts. There is no single correct writing formula - make up your own.
Good Luck M.
Okay, I'm a teenager and I've been writing since I was ten (Not that any of that was any good). Don't think of it like 'I think I'll go look for inspiration for a seven-hundred page novel today!' Try to find ideas and inspiration by chance. As for finding inspiration, there isn't really anything I can tell you.
I guess start with your main character. Pick a gender, what she looks like, and how she acts/her personality. Then go on to talents, faults, ambitions, ect.
You can make her talented, but don't make her (Or him) perfect. I don't know if you mean an actual rewrite of A Taste of Honey, or something similar. I've never heard of it, so my advice is to write whatever you get inspiration for, no matter how stupid you think it might sound.
Umm good luck! Just have fun with it :).
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
