Did German start the Germanic languages?

German is actually part of a family of languages known as the Germanic languages. The other languages that are part of this family are English, as well as the Scandinavian languages such as Swedish, Norwegian, Icelandic and Danish. It is thought that the common ancestor of all Germanic languages was the Proto-Germanic, spoken about 500BC.

However, some people believe that it began much earlier. The Germanic languages are classified into North German (Scandinavian languages), West German languages (English, German, Saxon, Scots) and Easter German (now extinct). Since the origins of the Germanic languages are relatively unknown, it is also not clear how these languages come to be related to each other, though one can clearly see the similarities between modern Germanic languages. It is also unsure how, among all the languages, the German language came to be known as German, though this is largely credited to the “gh German consonant shift” which separated the continent, resulting in the different Germanic dialect and languages.

Nope, German did not start the Germanic Languages. The Germanic Languages are a family of languages that are all related to Proto-Germanic, sometimes called Common Germanic. It’s an ancient language that is the common ancestor of all languages dubbed ‘Germanic.

€™ Much of what we know about Proto-Germanic today is based on assumptions and guesses. There’s no actual, direct evidence of Proto-Germanic -- by which, I mean there are no surviving texts or anything -- and what we know about it is based on existing languages. Some modern Germanic Languages include English and German (obviously), as well as less obvious languages like Afrikaans and Frisian.

For comparison, Latin is the existing proto-language for the Romance language family. We know Latin today because it was a language used in education and religious ceremonies for centuries, plus there are numerous surviving texts still in existence or recently in existence. Some Romance Languages include French, Spanish, Italian, and Romanian.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
