You right-wing extremists or Faux "news" afficianados keep shoveling the very same elephant dung propaganda that has been disproven before! The Recovery and Reinvestment Act (a.k.a. , "stimulus") to which you refer was NOT for the "$800 billion" as you so erroneously claim, but for $787 billion---a difference of $13 billion!
Before this Recovery Act stimulus was enacted, the GOP-damaged economy was HEMORRHAGING JOBS from 2008 through the first months of 2009 at the alarming rate of more than 800,000 a month, yet after the stimulus dollars began pouring into each state (see recovery.gov for a full accounting state by state), these massive job losses soon became JOBS CREATED, and private-sector jobs at that! All the far-right-wingers in Congress who maligned these distributed jump-start dollars sure were in a gigantic HURRY to RUSH HOME to their respective districts in time for the PHOTO OPS when those "shovel-ready" stimulus dollars were presented by the state's governor (see "The Rachel Maddow Show" through most of 2010 and late 2009). If these dollars for jobs-creating projects in these Republicans' districts were such "failures," why did these Republicans hasten to POSE PRETTY FOR THE TV CAMERAS at the project sites when those giant checks were presented?
If you dissect the unemployment figures state by state, you will discover a rather vast variance, with some states' unemployment figures being very low (i.e. , between 3.5% and 8%), mostly in DEMOCRAT-run states. The persistent 9.1% national rate is deceptively high, influenced by massive flooding throughout the midwest and more recently on the east coast, tornado damages in Missouri and other states, wildfires, earthquakes (including the massive quake in Japan that brought about the tsunami and the MELTDOWN of their three nuclear plants that contaminated their supply chain---we get a lot of our automotive and other supplies from Japan), teabagging evangelical governors in states like Wisconsin, Indiana, Florida, etc. declaring WAR on unions and public workers that resulted in massive layoffs..none of these factors are attributable to or the fault of President Obama.
The PAID FOR with OFFSETS "$480 billion JOBS bill" of which you speak with such attempted derision gets Americans working on repairing our GOP-neglected infrastructure across this nation, which means PAYCHECKS for CONSUMER SPENDING (spending which GROWS the economy from the ground on upward and outward), and which also means TAX REVENUES from the payroll taxes, which help pay down our national debt and deficit. Mock if you must...this is the best way to get our fragile recovery over the slow-down speedbump and build some PRIME THE PUMP MOMENTUM that will sustain us while Europe fights to fully recover from the GLOBAL HAVOC wreaked by the 2001 to 2008 FAILED FISCAL POLICIES of the U.S. right-wing Republicans!
It turned around the largest recession in a generation. The CBO states without the stimulus GDP growth in the second half of 2009 would have been negative. Unemployment stayed above 9% for more than 2 years after the Reagan tax cuts too - did that mean they were a failure?
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
