A moderate Republican has a far better chance of winning an election than any far-right candidate. A religious zealot who goes around quoting the Bible is not electable in this country anymore. Period.
Oh, and that's not a "true conservative." It's a true neo-conservative. Today's GOP has completely lost touch with what it means to be a true conservative.
A true conservative fights for small businesses and not huge corporations. A true conservative believes in personal liberty and understands that if it's not infringing upon somebody else's rights, it shouldn't be illegal. A true conservative would vehemently oppose the gigantic waste of money that is the war on drugs.
Today's GOP politicians only dislike government intervention when it suits their agenda. They decry taxes but in the very next breath they support the government coming in to people's bedrooms and telling them what they can and can't do. Teddy Roosevelt was a real conservative.
The Republicans who fought for the civil rights act against stiff opposition from the democrats were real conservatives. There are very few of them left today. Constitutionalist Libertarians are really the most true conservatives we have today.
Establishment figures win GOP nominations at the national level. It would take a monumental shift to see a Rand Paul or Ted Cruz lead the national ticket. I do not think today's GOP has it in them to go with one of those true conservatives.
Now as a VP candidate, that is more likely, but we saw what happens with that approach with Palin on a ticket. She did not help because true conservatives are divisive.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
