If it cannot connect to both, then, surely, the hot-water line. And you might want to change that somewhat misleading topic name.

2 Hot water. Or else you will be using a lot of electricity because the dishwater requires a certain water temperature, and if it doesn't have it, it will heat the water, which will mean washing dishes will take longer and your electrical bill will go up.

3 Of course, it depends on what country you are in. European dishwashers heat their own water, saving energy and leaving the hot water for the showers. In Europe, it would be connected to the cold water line.
BTW, are they making ANY self heating dishwashers in the US or at least 110v? Or, would it be possible to have a 220 dishwasher in the states since many clothes dryers are 220 anyhow? .

Ancient_Hacker replied to post #3: 4 >European dishwashers heat their own water, saving energy.....Uh, not quite. Heating anything with electricity is like 3 to 8 times more expensive than doing it with gas. You see electricity is made by burning gas or oil or coal and throwing away about 2/3 of the heat up the smokestack.
That triples the cost from the get-go. Then there's the cost of transporting the electricity.
