Woah- the irrelevancy of your analogy of President Wilson to modern democrats, Mr. MajorDundee, is quite ridiculous. Democrats and republicans were quite different parties back then (the republican TR would be an "evil socialist" in today's political culture). Your interpretations of the two parties over time is.. well, quite juvenile- they only aligned along the polars of left & right starting with FDR; but for the most part starting w/ Reagan, realizing itself during the Clinton Administration.
And turn America into a "European welfare state" (nice regurgitation of AM radio rightist pundits, by the way).. uhh the successful ones (which actually collect revenue- such as UK, Scandinavia, especially Sweden, & Germany--my homeland!) all sure seem to be beating the hell out of us in health care (in cost to patient & gov't effectiveness & COST), poverty, EDUCATION, debt, I could go on.. but i'm sure you've stopped reading by now. Your wonderful deregulation era, starting w/ Reagan (some blame to the dems by going along w/ this too) has given us a society where capital has been taken AWAY from education, health care, infrastructure, etc.. & instead what do we have? We have CEOs (and COs in general) getting paid exponentially higher than median income earners--on a scale not seen since just before the Great Depression.
OH.. and silly me, I almost forgot... it also was a huge mitigating factor in bringing about the current "Great Recession"- great job though, keep patting yourselves on the back. And funny you reference the CATO institute, yet, you demonize this statement in your post: **Wilson Said 'No nation is fit to sit in judgment upon any other nation.' Obama put it this way: 'Every nation is exceptional in its own way.'** First, why don't you take a look at the foreign policy stances of the CATO institute & other libertarians, especially the Republican presidential candidate Barry Goldwater (who ran against LBJ of course)? Second, you demonize what both Wilson & Obama are saying... & I just don't get it.
I don't get this ridiculous belief some people have in this country that somehow we have been uniquely and specifically ordained by go. Umm, what is wrong with saying no nation is to sit in judgement of another? If we were a small, tiny country like, say, Taiwan.. umm, I sure wouldn't want to be judged, with perhaps a ballistic missile, by a hegemonic country.
Because some of things we've done so far, or at least in the 2000s? Well, if we WERE a Taiwan-type country.. we'd be bombed out of existence already. What's the flaw in this premise of fairness in treatment between sovereign states?
And i'm asking rhetorically; since by your previous comments it seems quite obvious you'll just further regurgitate CATO crap or AM-radio talking points (of which, i'm not interested in reading). SO... anyway, what do YOU propose to do then? Instead of "European socialism"?
Let me guess... cut taxes? Hasn't worked in the last 10 years. Won't work now.
And we already have the lowest tax rate since the 1950s. Only time it worked (in and of itself) is when Reagan did it to solve a ONETIME issue of concurrent inflation & recession. He solved a problem, or tried to... so stop taking it as gospel (plus he also raised taxes, several times).
... ... ... And to Hatir Ba Loon: Umm, the founders of this country were liberals.. modern day economic conservatives were once liberals during the period of oligarchy via absolute-monarchies (hence the modern term of "neo-liberalism").. Do you even know what the definition of "liberal" is? I assume you don't even know what the term conservative means, either ....And yet, you accuse the original poster of "falling off the short bus"? First, nice shot at mentally ill kids.. classy; second, nice way to avoid any meaningful debate.. devolve into personal attacks, I TOTALLY didn't see that coming.
... ... ...
Well for A.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rK19WEwOI... For D.) Did you know that in 1920 an electric car could go 40 miles on a battery charge and today an electric car named the Chevy Volt can go 40 miles on a battery charge only a replacement battery which you will need inside of 5 five years costs $5000.00. This technology has been sold to the Russians.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
