Do dog lovers come in two flavors--one that really likes all dogs and another that only likes their own dog?

Moving to a new neighborhood a few years ago, it became obvious that there are people that are really into their own dog, but want very little to do with anyone else's pet. Then their are the true dog lovers that just plain like dogs. The former seem to be adults that have sort of inherited their dogs from their kids.

They seldom get another dog after the kids are gone. What strikes me about this is the degree to which they get attached to their dog and the loss they feel when the dog dies. After many years of having dogs in our family, I have found that the best way to get over the loss of a dog is to get another one.

However, there are many that lose the family pet, are devastated by the loss, but never get another pet. Seems many of those folks don't bother to stop and acknowledge any other dogs. Has anyone else noticed this rather odd behavior?

Three flavors You are forgetting the absolute Animal Lover that has unconditional love for all animals, like me. It does not matter if it is a dog, cat, parakeet, ferret or my back yard squirrels, ground hogs and wild birds. I will not kill a bug either.

Almost 20 years ago I lost a cat that I adored. He was 5 years old and died of the a heart attack caused by uremia. S bladder was blocked and he was in the hospital for it.In my life, all my cats had died at old age 17+.

Losing Rudy at 5 was unexpected and I felt like I had lost a child. I decided then that no more animals for me. Just could not handle the pain of losing them.

Over the years I fought tooth and nail to all my friend's efforts to give me a pet. However I never stopped loving the animals, giving them attention and continued supporting all the causes I donated to all the years. Until May 10th when confronted with a 9 years old, being kept in a crate in a garage for 2 weeks, facing a shelter and euthanasia because his owner 93 years old could no longe take care of him.

Nico, 16 Lbs, with the turquoise eyes is our lump of love now. Lap cat, he is my shadow. Sleeps with his head on my foot so he knows when I am moving away from him.

Took us (hubby and I) about 6 weeks of intense spinal and legs massage to make him bounce back where he could walk tall again after being confined in a small space. Now if we just move our fingers he comes running and throws himself at our feet for some serious "squeezing". I did not realize how much I missed the past 20 years by not having an animal.

Yes, do continue to share the love.

Yes, I think you are right. I think it's kind of that way with kids, too! And I think you're right that the first type "accidentally" stumbled into ownership, and their fondness for their dog probably developed over time.

Then there are dog crazy people, who have never met a dog they didn't love. I'm one of those. I drive my husband nuts because everywhere we go I am checking out dogs, and he hears "I love that breed!" about every single dog I see.

If it's a mixed breed, he'll hear "Oh! Look at that Benji dog!" or "Mutts make the best dogs! " I personally had a life long bias for big dogs, because that is what I always had.

Then I met a friend's pomeranian, and fell in love. I started a search for a dog that was just like "Teddy. " It took me several years to find my Pom, and then it was a rather bizarre series of coincidences that brought her into my life.

Needless to say, I now love small dogs as much as large dogs! These are my two current dogs. Pikachu is a 4-1/2 lb Pomeranian.

She is my little sweetheart (curled up in my bathrobe right now as I post.) Digger is our 80 lb Yellow Lab. He is a real sweetheart, too. Sources: Goldie .

No I don't agree that a person has to 1 or the other when I owend my Lindydog - That never meant that I just loved her, I have a very big heart & loveall kind of cats & dogs even when there not mine yes, I do miss her very much now that she passed away & of course like all owners felt she was the very best dog on this earth. But if I another chance I would love to get another dog with close or next to the same temperment. I think dogs & cats are wonderful to have around if you can afford it.

If I could I would always have 1 or the other around me Sources: my opinion .

1 For me, I'm deathly afraid of most dogs. I love animals, but I'm so afraid of dogs. That said, we have a dog, and I love her to pieces.

I'm very nervous around dogs I don't know, but it's not because I don't like them.

2 i've noticed this with people and their children too. Not the losing part, but I have a freind who talks about her kids like the sun sets and shines on them, but can't even remember my kids' names.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
