So your argument is that it was "natural" for women to work in the home during (say) the Middle Ages, so that's why women shouldn't expect equal opportunities in office and government work today?" No. The argument is that feminists have a hard time accepting that it was not some kind of men's conspiracy to oppress women throughout history but that such distribution of jobs(men-out, working; women-home) was the mutually agreed common-sense approach because of the obvious physical differences between men and women and because of the fact that almost all jobs were very physically demanding.
He did not mention a thing about women having or not having equal job opportunities today. "Let me ask you this: since (according to you) most jobs in the Middle Ages required lots of strength, shouldn't the jobs that didn't require such strength, such as jobs in the government and the clergy, have gone preferentially to women? Wouldn't that have been "natural"?"
It wouldn't. In a society where physically intensive jobs are the core that sustains the society itself by providing shelter, food, water, energy, to give the positions of the highest honor to a group who are seen as incapable of performing those (physically intensive) jobs(women) would be an irrational approach. It's only natural that men were considered more important in such circumstances and thus were considered the only possible candidates for the highest of positions.
Arlo, an excellent argumentation. Simply and to the point. There's a saying: "it's so clear even a radical feminist could understand it."
:) Or not. Lols.
First of all, someone needs to get their definition of "feminism" correct, or at the very least on the same page... The "women" you are referring to, taking on typical female roles are exactly what a lot of men on this forum consider "feminists" i.e. , parasites off of men, giving no importance to the female roles of a woman if she stays home and maintains the home and children... Others still, often refer to "feminism" as a woman that accepts anything nice from a man...i.e. , paying for dates, fixing a flat, opening a door, etc... In today's society, most women are trying to do everything, because we try to do what needs to be done, it just needs to be done.
In my marriage, I was expected to work outside the home, and bring in an outside income, plus maintain the home, the children...get up in the night with them, cook, clean, check homework, bathe, clothe, doctor's appointments, dentist appointments, extracurricular activities, etc... It's too much for one person to do that all by themselves, plus maintain a 40 to 45 hour job per week... That's where a lot of women are running into trouble... We are doing it all, and for the most part, we keep our mouths shut and just do it, because it needs to be done. So, like I said...someone should get on the same page as to what exactly is "feminism", because for most of us...the definition is very confusing, and full of hypocrisy...
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
