Do I need to pass a motorcycle test to ride a 250cc if ive got a full driving liscense?

Wizzy I am assuming we are talking UK here. I am afraid whatever our opinion of the merits of 23 yrs driving experience the government in their wisdom have decreed you can only ride up to 125cc on a motorcycle provisional licence - on your own. There is a scheme called DAS (Direct Access Scheme) that allows a person over 21yrs to ride a motorcycle over 47bhp (As big as you like - we teach on 500cc bikes.

) whilst under the instruction of a qualified DAS instructor. (and in radio contact with that instructor) You take the test on that big bike and once passed you can ride any size bike. David was it?

That posted -"With a full UK driving licence and a CBT pass, you can ride a motorbike up to 125cc or any size in cc if the power is less than 33BHP. You must take and pass the motor bike test within 2 years or your entitlement is removed." is so dangerously misinformed that if you take his advice you could end up in prison.

Hello You should have Full group P (Moped, Not over 50 cc and not designed to exceed 50 KPH (31 MPH)) on your licence, Entitlement dated from the date you passed your car driving test. So you can go and buy one and use it now. 23 years ago when we were lads we could ride 250 cc on a Provisional licence.

When the powers that be realised that in standard form they were capable of 100 MPH they were just going to cut it down to 125 cc but racing 125's were capable of going at 100 MPH so they brought in the 14.6 BHP as well as racing tech worked it's way through to standard bikes after a while. At the same time they decided to stop (P) Mopeds and (A1) Light Motor bikes limits being removed once you got the Full licence as it was hard to see if they were restricted or not. We also must wear helmets now and Provisional licence holders cannot carry pillions at all.

Your Full car licence never gave you the permission to ride a Motor Bike the Group added to your licence did? All in the aid of safety. Biker 30 + years Andy C.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
