Boyfriend/girlfriend, easier to just break up. I bet men cheat more on their wives and women cheat more on their husbands. In boyfriend/girlfriend relationships, It's easy enough to break up, no legal ties, usually no children, house, car and other mutually owned property.

When husbands and wives are unhappy in their relationship/marriage...there are so many legal entanglements, it's an expensive deal to get divorced. It's so much easier to keep everything in place . They may want to keep up the 'appearance' of marriage in the community, keep life on a normal keel for the kids, leave pensions and insurance policies as they are, continue living together in the house.
