Do solar panels generate energy from UV radiation or from "sunlight"?

Practically speaking, yes. There is "solar energy" in the sun that isn't radiation, but kinetic energy or nuclear potential energy. But that kind of solar energy mostly stays in the sun until it becomes radiation.
