Do the American Indians on reservations want the help of a white American? What kind of help?

Given the history of the White/Indian relations in the past, I would think that the Indian populations have probably had quite enough of the the White's concept of "help. " They've gotten robbed of their lands, cheated out of treaty promises, and generally gotten the short end of the stick at every turn.

Currently, the Mandan-datsa-Arikara Nation around New Town, North Dakota in the Bakken Oil Field has asked for help in building more living spaces for the 1000s of new workers around ghway 2 across the northwestern part of the state. They have needed additional construction help since early 2010. In addition, they have asked for delays in new oil rigs already federally approved to be removed.

This is the type of help/cooperation that is needed there. 1000s more new jobs in North Dakota oil and natural gas fields and on the pipeline there are vacant because of lack of housing for workers. Help could produce more energy for a region, reduce unemployment, and increase quality of life in the state.

Myself personally would accept help from anyone as long as it was sincere and helpful for the situation. I myself receive help and give help when needed to anybody regardless of race, age, gender or otherwise.

Based on my little knowledge of the White and Indian relations throughout history and today, I know that white americans have mistreated the American Indian in nearly every way imaginable. However, I attend school about 4 hours from the Rosebud Indian Reservation in South Dakota, and I really want to visit the reservation and offer help to these people in some way.

I understand that this reservation has some of the most extreme poverty in our nation today, and I was wondering if these people would be likely to accept my volunteer efforts or if they would turn me away and refuse any aid from me?

I think most original peoples of the Americas simply want to be their own masters. Most seem to want their own nation with little to no intervention from the USA goverment... I don't think it makes a difference where, or from whom the help comes from, as most just want freedom in a land that was originally theirs to begin with...

The USA is a product of Western culture/thinking, Native Americans have a different culture and way of life, with little to no resemblance to Greco-Euro laws and ideas... If a white person is to help Native Americans, they must learn their original ways (some Indians today have assimilated the Euro way of life), laws and their original religions so in order to assist them the very best way possible...

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
