There are options - mostly involving putting something on the outside. I think the one that looks the most like a permanent solution is a plastic screen that is originally made to replace a vent block completely, but should fasten easily over the block, and not rust as fast in a marine climate. I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
