Do you characterize people, in your mind, as animals or other creatures?

I do this all the time. I had a teacher I thought of as the spider woman because she had dark hair in a bowl cut, beady eyes, and long fingers. If someone is pretty but vacant I think they look like a cow.

I think cows are pretty but not much is going on behind the eyes. If someone's body language is very small and controlled I think of them as mice. If someone is very loud I think of them like a dog.

None of these characterizations are essentially negative or insulting in my mind; I just go for the simile. Do you do this? What are some of your more memorable comparisons?

Actually, I use two animal metaphors. The late, great Sir Isaiah Berlin once wrote an essay in which he divided thinkers and writers into two distincit categories: the foxes who draw data and inspirations from many sources and think in an eclectic fashion. E.

On a less grand scale, I tend to view people as dogs and cats.To my way of thinking, dogs are lazy, sneaky, disloyal and cowardly one on one. Cats are compulsively driven, quirky, asocial, unless they bond with someone then they are obsessively devoted and brave when they feel threatened.

Dog like people tend to form packs to hunt down and destroy their enemies.Cat like tend to do their own thing and don't need a group to fight. Dog like people like hierarchical social structures, whereas cat like people can operate independently or in a small, voluntary grouping. Dog like people tend to be insecure and prone to jealousies.Cat like people are cool and don't let the dog like people bother them.

Can't say that I do... I can't say that I do. I tend to see people as people, pets and farm animals as animals. I don't see too many wild animals in day to day life.

The only exception is at mealtimes. There are some individuals who choose to eat in ways that look awfully similar to pigs at a trough. It usually bothers me so I look away and then don't have to face the human/animal inconsistency in action..

Similarly, I think in colors. I am sorry that I can't think of the name, but it's a very old book. The hero was granted the ability to feel an animal inside a person when he shook their hand.

If he took a person's hand, for example, and felt a large paw, he'd guess that the person was like a tiger. That person really would have some of the personality/characteristics of a tiger. The way you do it sounds like it's based a lot on physical appearance more than personality.It's a good way to describe a person in writing, too.

I often associate a color with people. Somebody who makes me feel calm, or who is reserved, might be blue, while a person with red hair is, unsurprisingly, associated with red for me. Perhaps this is in part because I have terrible face recognition, and I tend to latch on to small details that I can remember.

Animals seem a lot more useful! For your writing, have you tried characterizing people as something other than animals? Say, as types of music or um, kitchen utensils?

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
