My kids and I have had a great summer together, full of a lot of fun outings, trips, and activities. Now that it is almost over, what can I do to bring the summer to a close--something to remember the fun we've had and also a way to look forward to the fun we will have during the school year. They are sad about summer being almost over, so I want something to lift their spirits.

We go out to dinner and then to the ice cream shop! We also had a great summer with lots of fun activities, etc. None of that can really be topped! But I like to give them a transition from the no school summer atmosphere to school is in session.
The week before our schools start, we have orientations to go to and school supplies to buy. So that gets them thinking about it. Then, the weekend before school starts we go to dinner and get ice cream.
Dinner may not sound exciting to some of you out there, but we don't do it often with three children... one still young enough to be considered high maintenance in a real restaraunt. (Five people also makes for a hefty restaraunt bill! ) This year we went to IHOP (their choice), and then Hershey's for ice cream.
At dinner, we talk about all of the fun things we did this summer, and what we think school will be like this year. It gives them a chance to mentally switch from summer to school in their heads, and the restaraunt and ice cream make it fun. Sunday each child helps me put together all of their supplies and pack their backpacks.
I purposely do not do this until that Sunday before, again to help them get in the mind set for school. They really like opening all of their new stuff and labeling everything, and especially packing their book bags. We also pick out what they are going to wear for their first day of school.
That is it for Sunday. We keep it simple and calm. So consider giving this idea a shot.
It works for our crew. Tell them you are taking them to a restaraunt and then to get ice cream to celebrate the end of a great summer! While at dinner, encourage them to talk about the new school year.
Usually they talk about what they think their new teacher will be like and if any of their close friends will be in their classes. You know, important stuff like that! Good luck.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
