Do you get social security? Might be a good idea to start putting some aside - (like you really get enough to do so)?

Anyone who says Social Security is a problem is lying. If we add less than a year to the retirement age and take the limits off the income that is taxed it will last over 100 years. If we do not, it is good for 40 to 50 years.

Now some hedge their statement by saying "Social Security and Medicare" but that means that they want to get rid of the health care reform law. I get social security but it is only 40% of my retirement funds. All who know and are honest say Social Security should not be a problem.

Well, it just boggles my mind. Cut funding for Planned Parenthood, and we have more unwanted children to support. Cut EPA regulations, and we have more slash and burn, and more poisoning the air we breathe and the water we drink, as well as the soil we grow food in.

A lot of seniors only have, through no fault of their own, ssi to live on. It isn't enough. I just think the way the seniors in this country get used as scapegoats is disgusting.

They have given their entire lives to hard work, and a lot of them end up in crappy one room apartments, without proper medical care and enough decent, healthy food to eat. And anyone who says that they don't, or say it is their own fault for not planning ahead, is a liar or a heartless excuse for a human being.(Above comment not aimed at you, Gary)I simply do not understand how some politicans, who have their fortunes, their nice assured retirement money, their investments, and their free health care can be so blase about how most of the people in this country live. Or it is that they just do not give a damn.

It is the "politics of fear. " Just scare people enough and they will do some really rotten things (or let the government do it for them). It is the true personification of penny wise and dollar foolish.

Why is it that when politicians have the power they exert their strength by only lifting pebbles which are easy instead of raising up the boulders that are really arduous.

Yea, I know. We are cutting the things that should not be cut. The GOP is bending over to pick up pennies while dollars fly over their heads.

How about cutting the military budget - bringing out children home, and getting out of countries where we are not wanted? Oh, thats right. The oil fields are over there.

Considering the number of people drawing SS and the number of family members who count on it to take care of their parents, I do not think any politician with half a brain will touch it with a ten foot pole.

I hope you are correct. However, what I am speaking of is not cutting social security, but cutting back on the number of people who process the applications and actually send out the money. It won't make a difference if you money is not cut back if you cannot get your check.

I believe you to be a retired Marine officer, probably a Chaplin. You will be making more than most of us since your retirement is related to your final salary. I imagine this is warranted.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
