Do you have a recycling program in your community? Do you recycle?

IN the city I live in now there is a GREAT recycling program (that I have just started to use), but in the town I was raised in, there is no program at all. What about your area? Asked by Kittyb 49 months ago Similar questions: recycling program community recycle Environment.

Yes, I've been using it for years.... We started with 3 small bins, everything had to be cleaned and separated. Now we have one huge wheeled bin that you can put anything in except glass (which still has a to be in a small bin) and the lids of plastic containers (which have to be trashed). It is so easy and makes it possible to have much smaller garbage cans and landfills.

Just recently, they are offering a yard waste container for a small fee. I am really tempted. We can't burn here and I have big trees I am constantly picking up after.

I love my trees but every time I have to pay to haul away piles of brush I wonder if I am crazy...then I see the family of raccoons that live in the trees, all the birds and squirrels, and hear the wind blowing thru them and I know I'm going to keep paying their keep! Maybe subscribing to the yard waste pickup will be cheaper than paying to have the brush hauled off...time to get out the calculator! I think in my area, your garbage rates are higher if you don't participate in the recycle program...what a great idea, if you make lots of garbage when you don't have to, you pay more to get rid of it.

I would vote to jack the cost up so high, they think recycling is worth the effort! Sources: Personal opinion .

No, and yes The community I live in does not have a program for recycling. It's a pain. The city does have a place to take some recyclables to, but not everything. So we save it all up and make a trip to other places that do accept our recyclable items.

My husband had some cardboard, and when he asked why there wasn't a place to recycle it in our city, someone said "but there is! " Well, where is it, he said?"Behind the library, in the dumpster marked cardboard". Well, I don't know about you, but I would be hesitant to just start putting stuff in a lone dumpster behind a public building!

They don't WANT to promote it, as they know if people know about it they will also add other waste materials to it...so it's kind of just a "city-use" cardboard recycling spot. That is what I hate about recycling...have to stockpile it up for a trip to the center. If we had weekly pickup, it would be so much easier!

And less JUNK in my garage and house! My husband is a bit more obsessive about it than I am, even saying beer caps and small things like that. But I guess it can all help!

The city was investigating a new garbage pickup program that would include recycling, but the uninformed town folk nixed it... So my basic answer is we DO recycle, but we have to take it out of town..

Our recycling program just can't seem to catch on, but there's hope down the line We live in a city (Las Vegas) that some would say is populated with people who are too materialistic, too shallow, etc. Not true! There are plenty of us who are concerned with the environment and other related issues. However, recycling seems to be faring poorly here.

In fact, although we used to diligently sort our paper, plastic, and aluminum into the correct color-coded bin and put them out on the correct day, we finally gave up, mainly because it seemed that 50% of the time, they wouldn’t be picked up. And if it happened to be a windy day, and we and our neighbors neglected to put the paper bin on the bottom, newspapers and such would be blown everywhere, creating a much bigger environmental mess. The county is now going to trial something new in selected communities: Allowing people to put their recycles into one large trash bin, no separating necessary.

There are 3 different approaches currently being reviewed by the county: "Each program is slightly different. One offers weekly trash and recycling collection. Another offers trash collection twice a week and recycling pick-up once a week.

And the third option keeps the current recycling program in place, which is trash pick-up twice a week and recyclables every other week. " According to what I read, only about 2% of our waste currently gets recycled, so hopefully the new approach(es) will improve this. About a mile from us And headed straight toward town, so we pass it frequently, is our recycling center. Great bins for paper, aluminum cans, glass, cardboard, plastic bottles, with drums for used car oil and containers for plastic bags. It is kept clean and well-tended and really reduced our monthly garbage bill since this makes it possible to only use one container.

Now, if there were someplace for styrofoam....

We do. It's not great, but it's better than nothing. We have a recycling program, but it isn’t the greatest.

They only pick up everyother week. It would be better if they picked up everyweek - even if it ment having to drop it off somewhere.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
