I like the real world better. I live within 45 minutes of the major theme parks in Central Florida and have been to most of them enough to know that I prefer other places for my children and I believe my children do as well. A trip to a theme park has some exciting aspects but it is also exhausting and expensive.
The park that exhausts us are the lines, the constant noise, the crowds of people, and the artificial nature of the place in general. As a family, we prefer the natural beauty of our area and the places that we travel more than the theme parks. There is nothing like riding an old inner tube down on of Florida's many beautiful spring fed rivers, visiting the spring heads and swimming in the always 74 degree water, hunting for sharks teeth and fossils, and catching a glimpse of a bald eagle, otter, gator or one of the many other wild creatures that live here.
Then there are the beaches with surf riding, sand castles, bird watching, and generally refreshing and rejuvenating fresh air and sea water. There are wonderful places were you can kayak between islands and scoop up a bucket of water from the marshy ocean beds to find seahorses, little puffer fish, needle fish and many other small creatures that live in the estuaries. It is also a thrill to find that you have a couple of dolphins joining you on your kayak journey.
Kids are so thrilled with that! That is just a small bit of what we see here and when we travel to the mountains, deserts or prairies of this country we find similarly exciting pursuits. We also enjoy historical sites, museums, and art.
There is so much out there! Our kids love to try ethnic foods in cities, eat and shop on the real "Main Street, USA" instead of the one at the Magic Kingdom. We enjoy county fairs and local festivals when they happen, they are a bit like a theme park in some aspects but there is a realness about it that can not be duplicated artificially. So, though I live close to it all and have experienced it, I just have no desire to visit the theme parks.
Where ever you like to go. We took our son to Disney World several times and he always had a good time but the trick was to avoid the kiddie stuff and all the crappy commercial stuff. He really enjoyed riding the monorail, the little motor boats on the lake and the odder restaurants.
He had a better time at Sea World, 'specially when I got drenched by the killer whale. But, that said, we always had the best luck taking him places that we liked. We looked for beaches that would be fun for everybody.
Zoos and animal parks. Whale watches out of Provincetown and Bar Harbor, Nantucket Island, downtown Boston for the Aquarium, Science Museum and restaurants (he must have liked that: he moved to Boston about 20 minutes after he graduated from gh School and he's still there 7 years later). Kids are smarter than you think and some goof in a mouse suit gets old fast.
Take 'em where you like to go (maybe not the bars and casinos) and treat 'em like adults as long as they behave. You'll all have a better time.
I wanted to take them to Disney land one time in their life when they were 9-10 years old. I think any activity.. would be fun. Canoe rides, parks with nature, camping, mini golf etc.Kids just want to be with you.

What hotels are walking distance to any of the disneyworld theme parks.
It could be from commercials, franchises or theme parks.

Just returned from a 4-day vacation at Disney parks in Orlando. The kids just loved it - and so did we I agree that the place is totally commercialized in a way very few places even dare to be. Lucky for us we where outside the season so the lines into the parks and to the rides where very short if at all – we kept strolling lazily by signs stating “10 minutes from here”.
But the parks are beautifully built with plenty of rides and features and excellent shows and a lot of thought put into making this vacation a really fun one. I mean there are so many great Disney movies and characters and the kids where amazed they can see these characters, play with them, and ride on all sort of rides displaying them. This was my first time at Disney as well and I was surprised at how much fun I personally had.
I could not believe how much fun the kids had. They just loved and adored the place and could not stop bubble about it. The only two issues – not really complaints but issues – that I have is that it's difficult to find decent food that is not total junk food.
Even the supposed not so junky food is maybe one step above the regular fast food crap. The second issue is that the place is crazily commercialized with stores upon stores full of overprices useless stuff nobody really needs. But I guess that is what can you expect from a theme park from a commercial company.
Overall worth it. Not every year not even every other year but definitely once every few years. You practically owe your kids that experience.

Yes I prefer to take them elsewhere I wouldn't want my vacation to be tainted by being subject to a gay wedding, which Disney sponsors and encourages on their parks.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
