Do you think Askville should allow a person asking a question to be able to "Delete" their question if they want to?

Question deletions I would be in favor of a person being allowed to delete and/or edit their question--up until the point the first person answers it. This is like what Ebay does--you can edit your auction up until you get your first bid, then no more changes are allowed. Once it's asked, though, and someone's answered it, it would affect too many other things to be able to withdraw or edit a question.

If a question was deleted, it would tie into too many peoples scores and ratings, and would be a mess. Even in the topic lists. It's kind of a lesson in impulsivity and proof reading before hitting that "Ask the Community" button.

But if you feel you've asked a "bad" question, for whatever reason, it's really no big deal to anyone else but maybe yourself most of the time. There are so many other questions on here, and we all have our own insecurities to deal with, so most of us don't care and/or don't even notice for more than 5 seconds what other people do. I think we all think that our bumbling mistakes stick out like a sore thumb here, but really...they only do to ourselves, pretty much!

Yes, there are a few insensitive people on here that will make rude comments, but we all know who they are and when we see the comments, we think "what a jerk! , again" and blow it off. We all make mistakes sometimes, and when we make a mistake here, we kind of have to live with it!.

Yes We have talked about this issue before in here. I think that if there are no "answers" to a question that was asked that the person who asked the question whould be able to delete it after 2 /3 days. Also I feel that once they post the question if they notice a lot of typos or typed the question out wrong they should be able to delete or or atleast be able to go and edit the question.

There are some people who make mistakes when typing. At times askville gets a lot of questions being asked at the time and so some questions get overlooked at no ones fault there are just so many questions being posted at once some peoples questions have to me missed by people. Again I would say yes we should be able to delete questions if there are no "answers to the questions yet" if the questions have answers then it will be hard to delet e it sinc the person who answered the queston too the time to do it.

If you go and edit a question after a person has answered it , it will not be fair to that person because then their answer might be wrong after you have edited it. So as long as there are no anwers to the question(S_) yet. I say yes I wish we could edit the or delete the question.

There's a problem with privacy on this site. Recently, Askville had a person who asked that a specific question be removed since it was rather "perverted" (for lack of a better word) and, what's worse, HE didn't actually ask it. Someone else got into his computer and asked it.

Maybe as a crude joke. In a case like that, there is NO DOUBT that someone SHOULD be able to delete their questions (either directly or through Askville, but if it has to be done through Askville Administration, one shouldn't have to "make a case" to have them do it. A simple request to delete is all it should take).

But the bigger problem with Askville, as I've mentioned before and have suffered the consequences of personally, is that ANYone can simply get to the site, and if they know your avatar or user name (and a LOT of people use their own photographs), all one has to do is click on your avatar and they can see EVERY QUESTION AND ANSWER you've given! This is even without logging in! This includes your boss, your family, ANYONE.

The people who know me on Askville know that I have changed my avatar and name to a generic one, SPECIFICALLY for this reason. It's not a perfect solution, but it helps. Some argue that this software design can be found with other sites, too.My problem with that is the nature of the questions and answers one has on Askville.

They are often VERY personal. Recently I noticed someone asked something like "Would you ever cheat on your spouse". The spouse of everyone who answered has easy access to the answer.

Is it any wonder why all five answerers said "No, they wouldn't"? People have told me to consider whatever you put on the internet to be for all to see on the internet. I disagree.

I think on a site where there is a required log-in in order to ASK the questions, it's a reasonable expectation that there would be AT LEAST a log-in required to see what questions someone asks. In fact, I think the best way to do this is to only allow FRIENDS to see what questions you've asked or answered. Leave the Questions and Answers alone.

Just restrict this easy access to SEE all the Q/A of an individual in one, easy swoop. This "glitch" has affected my use of the site. I hardly ask any questions anymore, I stay away from answering certain questions, and I tend to respond under "Discussion" which can NOT be accessed by just anyone (unlike "Answers").

My use of the site has decreased, since it's not worth it if I have to be careful about what I do. I think it's something that REALLY has to be addressed. In time, someone's boss will see all of the questions that person asked about his rotten boss, or someone's husband will see all the questions that person asked about cheating or perhaps someone will be found to ask a lot of questions on AIDS. With things the way they are there is a LOT of potential for problems and more and more people will tone down the questions they ask and answer, the site will become boring and membership will decrease.

It really wouldn't be necessary... Because, after 5 answers or 7 days..whichever comes first...the question is gone off of the active list. I suppose it wouldn't be fair to be able to delete a question..especially if one or two people wtill wanted to answer it and were just doing some research before doing so. Even if it was a 'time sensitive' question...it will just expire.

Anyway, it's just the way Askville is set up. Once a question, answer or comment is submitted, it's there for the duration. It seems like a good system...it's been working quite well for months... But, there is always the option...to make a request to Askville to remove the question...and see what happens.

It's a resource A secondary premise of such Q&A sites like Askville is that the closed questions become a searchable resource for others. (Or they would be, if we had a real search box and not a topic search box. ) So if you say, "I am going to Disneyland in 3 days, what is a must-do?" that question might help someone else going there.

If a question violates the Askville terms of service, Askville will remove it. Other than that, I can't think of a reason why. Even if you resolve the problem on your own, the answers are a resource.

Everything you post on here becomes property of Askville to use as they see fit. They don't want to lose any of it, I'm sure..

" "Can we go in to our own question in askville and delete it?" "If you could ask a question in Askville, what would it be. " "Dear Askville: Why do you allow personal attacks on a person asking a question? Can it not be corrected?" "Is this an appropriate question for Askville?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
