When a horse breaks its leg, they usually put it to sleep. When a pet gets old and is in pain and suffering, they usually put it to sleep. When a relative or friend gets old and is incapable of looking after themselves, they get sent to a senior center, old folks home, whatever.

This site is like the friend or relative that can no longer do things such as eat, use the bathroom, change clothes etc. Without a lot of help. That person is going downhill and should get their affairs in order so they can face the Grim Reaper. That's where this site is right now - the Grim Reaper is coming.

We've allowed them to sterilize, sanitize and otherwise completely wipe this place clean of all its personality so that's it like Great Aunt Gertrude with Alzheimer's - there's not much hope. They've encouraged the kiddies 10 and under to come in and ask totally asinine, ridiculous, stupid, dumb, ignorant and otherwise foolish questions, even going so far as to encouraging them with a "homework" category. And by so doing, they've driven off a great many of the people who helped give this place its character and personality over the years.

They've discouraged give-and-take and what they have encouraged is hidden in a "Forums" section no one goes to - that should say something right there. I'm just sticking around for the funeral at this point knowing that someday in the foreseeable future, I'm going to click on the AV link and find a notice saying the site is no longer in operation. I just hope before they do that they let us know so we can have a formal wake for the body of the dead Askville.

And we have only ourselves to blame for it. I could not disagree with you more. We have crappy design changes, inconsistent leadership and moderation, and lack of vision to blame for it, none of which we have anything to do with.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
