Do you think John Edwards is using his wife's cancer as a campaigning tactic to earn sympathy votes?

He has gone on 60 minutes, Good Morning America, and other national tv shows. Do you feel he is doing this to help his presidential campaign or is there an altruistic motive? No! I don't think he has a choice but to talk about it on these shows. People want to know why he has decided to run with his wife being sick.

I'm sure they would prefer that their lives aren't so much in the spotlight, but once you are a national figure there isn't much choice. It's best to be open with it all, so that they can hope for some privacy at home, than have the media hanging outside their door to find out what they situation might be. And I'm also sure, if they had a choice, they would prefer that cancer was NOT a factor their lives or the campaign, but it is, and they have to deal with it.

Would he bring it up if the news media didn't ask? I don't think so. And I don't think you will see mention of it in his own campaign materials.

The media is driving the interest in what should be a very personal thing. *Poppet*'s Recommendations LANCE ARMSTRONG: RACING FOR HIS LIFE Amazon List Price: $24.95 .

Very possibly If he is, it's pretty disgusting. He sure is getting a lot of free publicity. Somehow it all seems a bit too much, the All American Family, so well scrubbed and pure, so devoted to each other...how even her terminal cancer can't stand in the way of achieving her husbands' dream.

I think it could get him a lot of sympathy votes...or...it could backfire, bigtime. My biggest concern would be, as president, what would John Edwards do if a huge crisis was taking place in the country while his wife was on her death bed? I think the presidency is too much of a responsibility for him right now.

He should take care of his problems at home. There will be another election in four years..or eight years. He's a young man, I would have a lot more respect for him if he waited to run for office....and then run on his merits.

I hope this doesn't sound too harsh, my heart and prayers go out to them, but not my vote. No There are many who would vote against him with this information. In the past, when there has been publicity for cancer patients - many more sought testing and treatment and it saved lives. We should thank them for this service..

That's horrible He's talking about it because not enough people DO talk about cancer. Sheryl Crow was interviewed yesterday and she said she was so happy they were talking about it everywhere and anywhere, they're helping to push for funding to find environmental causes. I think what they're doing is awesome.

They're in denial They're simply in denial ... their advisors should tell them to quit and enjoys their days together with their kids.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
