No. It's a lot safer than sending humans at this point in history, although sending humans is a lot more romantic, not to mention, dramatic. But, by continuing unmanned exploration of our neighbor when we do finally get around to sending a manned flight to Mars (in roughly 2210), we'll know a little about what's waiting for us - such as dangerous microbes, where the ice sheets are etc.Definitely well worth the money.

And who knows? With this latest one, the Martians who have been living in the underground caves for centuries, might come out and hop on for a ride, or make faces at the camera, or flip us off!

Spending is a matter of making choices. If you see that learning how to control the space around the Earth may save all of us some day, you will see the value of steps to improve our space program. If not, you may think spending money on cigars is more important. In a democracy we all make these decisions.

I think it is worth the money to build a capability and knowledge base.

The space program has always appeared to be a lot of money spent with no return; but really, we get our returns in the form of technological advances that we don't even connect with the space program. If it wasn't for past space programs, I would not have a high speed internet connection, for example. Even more to the point, the space program is glamorous; and encourages impressionable young minds to delve into the sciences.

You can think of it as a very expensive advertising program; that gets necessary results.

Knowing as much as we can about our Solar System is not only a good thing; it is an obligation made necessary by out brain's Neocortex. Since we know have the intellectual ability to attempt to satisfy our curiosity, we are obligated to make the attempt. If some of us are happy with the idea that our planet was constructed in 6 days by some Mesopotamian imagined man-like figure in the sky, we should allow them their assumption but in no way, allow such thought processes to hamper our quest for knowledge.

“To each his own”, the few will do the innovation and accumulation of actual knowledge. We will all happily take credit for the efforts of the few.

How did religion get into this. I'm Christian and believe in space programs, much like many of my Christian friends. It's narrow-minded people who think we just sit on rooftops waiting on our Savior to appear.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
