Do you think the killer whale attack in Sea World merits the whale to stay alive?

The SeaWorld incident No, I don’t think it should be killed for acting instinctively. It’s a terrible situation for the trainer who was killed and her family, but it’s a wild animal, and from the reports it sounds like she of course knew that and her family knew that, and there are always risks involved with working with wild animals like that. It puts us in an awkward situation.

I hate to see animals penned up and not given the freedom to live a natural life. It seems so cruel. I hate to see animals in too small enclosures, pacing for hours, caught in repetitive actions due to boredom and frustration.

But then again, they do serve another purpose, one that benefits their kind and their ultimate existence in the world, and the existence of other creatures. Places like Seaworld aren’t there only to have an aquatic "circus" for our amusement. But that’s what pays the bills, so that they can continue to fund research and preservation of the animals they display.

We will pay to be entertained by these amazing animals; our ticket sales help fund so many more things. And while they are in captivity, they are protected from their natural predators, so usually they live a longer and less "painful" life, with the best health care and no natural enemies in their tank with them. They create an awareness of the animal--they help us to "fall in love" with them, and want to protect them, to become aware of their value to us in the wild.

While I don’t favor the mass capture of these beautiful animals, I do see a value in having a limited number to help us help them. I wish it could be just animals found injured in the wild, those that can’t survive without human intervention, but that’s not always the situation. What seems best is for this whale to be released to the wild; it’s not safe to have it as part of Seaworld.

But if it CAN be released to the wild is another situation; only the experts know if that’s possible. But it should not be killed; that would only waste another life and I can’t believe the trainer would have wanted that.

I think in the best interests of the whale, it should be released back to the wild if they can do so safely. Safely meaning that the whale would have a good chance of re-assimilating to the wild and living out it’s natural lifetime. If safe release is not possible, it would be best that the whale be put down.

It’s obviously unhappy in captivity and we’ve made any other existence impossible. We’ve tampered with nature, made the poor creature miserable, and the only certainty we can give it is freedom or peace. If you were falsely imprisoned, finally brought someone’s attention to the fact, and they said ’Oh, so sorry, is solitary for life okay?

’, how would you feel? The use of Orcas (and lions and tigers and bears, oh my!) should probably be discontinued in amusement parks, stage shows, etc. It shows a primitive and sometimes cruel disregard for only slightly less developed life forms. Zoos, at least, have gone beyond their side-show origins and helped slow and even reverse species extinction.

Other than 'awareness', what have the amusement parks, stage shows, etc. Really contributed? .

This Orca should no longer be kept in captivity. It should be killed. Since Orca's travel in pods I wouldn't release it, but it clearly should not be kept in captivity.

If this were someone's dog it would not be a question. Orcas are fine in captivity, otherwise there would be more incidents then just one Orca, this is just a case of one Orca that is not fit to be kept in captivity. Google Map View Larger Map .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
