Ok you seem intelligent, so I will assume you understand that dejure and defacto segregation are very different. One thing that you obviously don't know is that HBCUs are not just for black people. These are universities formed decades ago to provide a quality education of black people who are not readily excepted into white univesities.
I do not know of any HBCUs that were formed after 1964. So to reiterate this point for you these universities were formed during segregation and are only geared to black people because they have historically been so. You also have to realize that the majority of black people in this country have their roots in this nation since slavery, so unlike Asians, Latinos, and Jews who have a homeland, we do not, so have to establish a homeland here.
Other miniorities came here mainly by choice. Dude, colleges geared towards white people? That is the majority of colleges in this nation.
Except for HBCUs, most US universities are historically white. The school that I go to, and many of the schools that I have seen have the same race divisions as HBCU, just reversed: the majority is white while there is a small minority of blacks, latinos, asians etc. And to clarify this for you, HBCUs ARE NOT geared towards black people. Many white people just do not apply because they feel these schools are "beneath" them and/or they don't feel comfortable being in an environment where they are not the majority.
Finally, HBCUs do not exclude anyone. It seems safe to assume that you have never actually been to a HBCU, but there are other races there, they are just not a majoritity. Just like at my school you have to search to find a black person, you have to search to find a white person at a HBCU...they are there, but they won't be the first faces you see.
Your problem is that you do not see HBCUs as HISTORICALLY Black Colleges and Universities. They were only black in the past to allow black people to gain a quality education. We are not going to tear down these universities just because segregation is no longer legal.
It is wrong to suppose that African Americans are the only ones with their own college. What about Brigham Young University which was really a lily white school. There have always been religious universities like Notre Dame.
Demanding general equality in quality of life issues and having a specialty college are two different issues.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
