This won't be a popular answer but I work in a therapist's office and there are many opportunities for the mentally ill in our community. All of the therapists in our town take their medicaid payment as full payment for treatment--so the poor in our community do have help available. There is also a huge non-profit mental health center in our little town.
The problem becomes a little hopeless when you realize you help them all you can but then send them back home to their dysfunctional families and it is just sad.
It needs to be easier for the unemployed, underpaid and uninsured people with mental health issues to get medical care. Those without money can't afford to pay a doctor and go off medication.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
