Doe electric appliances such as kettles and toasters consume any electricity when only switched on at the socket? [UK]?

UK People I live with switch off appliances at the socket and even unplug them. Does this save any money? I'm not talking about TVs etc - just common or garden kitchen appliances.

I find the unplugging a nuisance and can't think that any electricity could be saved at all. When the appliances are being used, fair enough, but otherwise...I'd love to know your opinions. Any time something is plugged in, it is using power.

It depends. If the appliance has a computer in it, that is usually drawing a few watts. Your basic microwave oven draws a few watts all the time just to display the time and to monitor the keypad for your keypresses.

Most kettles and toasters do NOT draw any power when off. Basically any appliance that has a little sensitive touch-switch or remote control, it HAS to be drawing some power all the time. Also any appliance that hs a big wall-brick power supply is drawing some power all the time.

On the other hand if the appliance has a big old clunk-type of switch, like toaster or frypan, those almost always do not draw ANY power when off, as the big clunky switch turns off all the power.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
