Similar questions: tuxedo worn groom wedding.
You can wear anything you damn well please. However, certain choices, in fact most of them, will have severe consequences in relation to the wife, future matrimonial happiness, etc. To avoid weeks or even years of hassle, you need to wear something that at least goes with the bride's gown. If the bride is not wearing the full white dress with veil, etc. , then a business suit might do.
But think of the pictures that hopefully you and your kids will be looking at decades from now. You want something that looks nice that you won't regret. A tuxedo is nice because it signifies something higher and better.
The higher and better it signifies is not the only one out there, but there are few sets of clothing that signify anything higher and better. If you were both going to be farmers, you could wear something simple and homey, that signified simplicity and hard work. If you were a military person, you could wear your uniform, which signifies mindless unquestioning sacrifice and obedience to leaders who don't deserve it (sorry, just got Iraq on the mind.
) For the rest of us, a tux is hard to improve on. And it is just one day.
Of course not! Both times I've gotten married, the groom has worn a very nice suit and tie. If your wedding is more formal, a tuxedo or morning suit is, traditionally, the way to go.
Much of it depends on the level of formality of the wedding. Also, if you are of an ethnic background that has traditional wedding garb, that might be something to explore.
All depends on what the bride and groom want. I've been to western, sunrise, sunset, Elvis themed, horseback, and picnic camp out weddings. I have been in weddings where the bride and groom looked like they stepped from the altar to the cake with tails and top hats; long flowing vale and white flowing gown.My personal favorite; bluejeans and boots; bride and groom; my own wedding.
Absolutely not. The groom will certainly not be struck dead by the powers that be before his chance to get down the aisle if he isn't wearing a tuxedo. A wedding should be whatever makes the couple happy.(Some even do it le naked!) My husband and I did choose a wedding gown for me and a tuxedo for him but only because it was what we wanted and he looked DAMN fine when he tried it on.
(At least I thought so and that's what counts right? ) Things that influence what to be worn might be; What kind of theme does your wedding have, if any? Do you want casual and relaxed or traditional and formal?
How would you like to see your guests dressed? Where is the wedding going to take place? What kind of pictures do you want for your big day?
Is your wedding in a church? Outside? Beach?
Forest? Graveyard? Alternatives to wear can be anything including a nice suit, a linen suit, jeans and shirt, bare buttom, a costume for a themed wedding, anything you can pull from his closet.

1 vala_amaris, regarding your answer "Absolutely not. ": Well it kind of depends on what kind of wedding you are having ....if it's an informal wedding......NO......but if it's a formal wedding maybe.... A nice suit is just as nice....but if there are groomsmen....it looks nicer for them to all look similar.....would be weird if all the groomsmen had on different suits.... that's why most do tuxedos.
