Well, we know it was a Bush-appointed commissioner at the time. And we now know a CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN initiated the review (if you hadn’t heard that yet - yup - it was a Republican). AND given that only liberal groups were denied... ...I think what we’re seeing is the classic right-wing approach: point fingers and scream really loudly and maybe people won’t notice it’s US!
Guys, the scandal is that the IRS is supposed to prevent political groups from gaining 501c4 status. Reviewing applicants for their political activities is their JOB. The ONLY improper thing done was that some groups were tagged up front for further review based solely on their title or mission statement, which seems like a reasonable mistake to make when you're understaffed and overworked.
There was never anything Machiavellian going on here, other than the ridiculous witch hunt. The real scandal is that the actual law, if enforced, would have prevented any of these groups from gaining 501c4 status, because they're all clearly political (liberal and conservative.).
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
