How refreshing to here.... There are not many folks that think of donating they would rather throw it away or make money with their worn or used items! There are two that I know of that can assist you here they both work with low income families in need of donations for most of their comforts. Somewhere around S.

Jersey should be a Goodwill, there should also be a Salvation Army in the area! All you have to do is call them for a pickup or take it to them! There is always a third option advertise in the local news papers or flyer's that you have some used but nice furniture to give away all they need do is pick up and drive away!

If you decide this to take this route make a date and time and for safety reasons have some friends over when the time comes! Goodwill Goodwill operates donation centers and Attended Donations Centers (ADC's) throughout Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia. Each location has an attendant on duty to receive your donation and to give your a receipt for tax purposes. ATTENTION DONORS:Donors interested in claiming tax deductions should keep itemized lists of their donations.

The Internal Revenue Service allows a deduction for each item, but the donor determines each item’s value. Generally, an item’s value should be based on fair market value – what the item would sell for in a thrift store. Goodwill provides receipts to donors at its drop-off sites.

1 salvation army and goodwill take furniture. You might want to try "thrift stores" in your phone book. They usually give proceeds to benefit a charity and employ people who might not otherwise have a jobl .

2 If you *cannot* find a charity (I assume you want the deduction if you can get it... I would) then you might consider freecycle just to get rid of it. Just google freecycle + South Jersey and I am sure you will find a local group. People who cannot afford much do check there for household items (college students, just out of college and beginning teachers... my nephew... not in South Jersey though!) .

3 Thanks to all of you, Houston_proud, Pickedclean123, truffles147 and unixcorn. I guess I never thought of Goodwill or the Salvation Army for furniture. I am not relly looking for a deduction as much as someone who will come pick it up.At this point in my life I can't move furniture anymore and I don't have a truck anyway.

I will have to check into freecycle. With all the universities in and around Philadelphia there must be some grad student or recent grad who would want it. I appreciate your suggestions.

I have some old cell phones I'd like to give to a needy organization in the Philadelphia-South Jersey area. Know anyone?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
