You have to apply, but it's an easy acceptance; they're just trying to kick out high school kids and the like I'm sure. Both take away about 15% all things considered. These are probably best as ways to augment your income, not replace it. Unless you get very good as selling things on Ebay and can turn it into a business, you're not going to be making $50k a year doing these things.

If you don't currently have a job, and you have technical skills you can often talk with your employer about telecommuting. Office space is at a premium and my employer actually prefers that I work from my house rather than come into the office (I am a web developer).

I have technical skills but nothing as advanced as web developer. I'm currently out of a job so I would need something that could support me.
