I'd recommend the Elizabeth Moon books They're not supernatural, but pure sci-fi space opera. They're very enjoyable. You should start with Trading in Danger, but any of her books will probably work for you.

You might also like the Species Imperative series by Julie E. Czerneda. The first one is called Survival and it's also very good.

I have a few suggestions! These arent so much Sci-fi books as they are fantasy but I really really enjoyed this series of books. I even named one of my twin daughters after the character!

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
