Yes, I have a photographic memory though it does not serve me as well as it used to. I was blessed with a good memory from as far back as I can remember. I remember things from about the age of five...my sibling who is 2 years older than me, is constantly amazed at how much I remember.
I can remember conversations my Mom had with other adults about problems in their life or marriage. I remember alot of my childhood vividly. I was a chronic asthmatic and spent alot of time at home, and I remember many of the times I was ill.
I remember all the good times as well. I remember that I could not leave home for school without taking my Cod Liver Oil. My Dad would stand by the door with the spoon of Cod Liver Oil, and my Mom would be next to him with half a lemon to squeeze in it....ugh....yuckWhen I was in College, I did very well in my exams, especially those I had not prepared for very well, simply because I could remember what I had read.
Sometimes, I could visualize the page and where the information I needed was. I am also very good with telephone numbers. I call a number once and I can recall it from memory.
Similarly, the same occurrs if someone has been calling me a few times. The number sticks in my mind. I remember at my last job, I was sometimes like the telephone book, particularly for one colleague, who always needed the same number all the time.
Having recently returned home, I find that I can recall faces better than names. A few weeks ago, I met a young lady and we were talking. Something about her face was familiar to me so I asked her if she was related to someone whom I knew who had died a long time ago.
Turns out, that was her sister. Sometimes, I remember stuff, and when I confront people with it, they insist never happened or they never said so, and I know I am correct. I just let it be at that time.
When all is said and done, having a photographic memory has served me well.
I don't know the actually definition of a photographic memory, but I have had photographic episodes. I am an avid reader - since 2nd grade - and often when I have read something I know where on a page the paragraph is and if I close my eyes and concentrate I can actually see the pictures and "read" the paragraph again. I noticed this most when I was still in school and studying - it came in pretty handy.
I haven't had the need to really exercise this in a long time. It works this way for mermories too - some things come back with pictures, sounds, and smells yet some things not at all. Unfortunately I don't get to choose.
I'm not sure if my memory is photographic but I can remember whole pages of information that I've read..even from years ago! It is helpful since I'm in school and will probably be in school for next 5 years or so. I have been like this since I became aware so I assume that I have had this since birth.
Unfortunately it's not always a good thing. I read constantly. With my coursework I have more than 5 chapters of reading in a textbook then a bunch of other reading assignments for psychological studies and other pertinent information.
I have to take frequent breaks from reading that to reading another book (or hubs..my new addiction) because I feel like my brain is about to explode. It's chaotic and distracting if I don't input something totally different. I do remember what I hear and what I see.
I can recall the picture of my first grade teacher and remember the first time I heard my mother playing Elvis on her record player...things like that stay with me quite often. Since studying cognitive psychology, I have wondered many times if I have a malfunction in memory transitions between short and long term memory.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
