Does Fresca have enough real grapefruit juice to be concerned about if you are taking medications that say to avoid it?

Good question! I was unable to find how much grapefruit content is in Fresca - did find a list of drug interactions -en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_drugs_affe... . It does say the it is concentrated, however.

Mty advice would be to avoid drinking it until you talk to your doctor.

Grapefruit juice & medications The short answer: it's probably not a good idea. The reason grapefruits & grapefruit juice are a concern is that there's a constituent of the fruit and juice called bergamottin that interacts with some medications, causing increased blood levels of the medication, along with increased side effects. There's an enzyme called CYP3A4 in your liver that helps to regulate the metabolism of some drugs, and grapefruit juice suppresses that enzyme's actions.

This interaction was discovered after people died from essentially overdosing on apparently-normal doses of medications. Your question got me curious, though, so I first checked Fresca's ingredient list. Sure enough, "concentrated grapefruit juice" is number three.

Poking around, I found this study, which found that Fresca had little effect on blood levels of cyclosporine (an immunosuppressant used by transplant patients to prevent organ rejection). But don't get your hopes up; the study was a small one (12 participants), it only studied the one drug, and the authors themselves admit that there are a lot of variables not addressed by the study (not the least of which is the sometimes-wide variation in CYP3A4 levels in different people). At the end, they even caution people taking cyclosporine against taking their word for it.

On this website, which was written by a hospital's transplant team to educate patients about some of the different drugs they might have to take, they specifically warn patients taking Prograf (another immunosuppressant drug) away from drinking Fresca. (Scroll down to the "food/beverage interactions" section. ) The verdict: since I don't know the drug you're taking, I can't tell if interactions have been studied, but the evidence isn't very promising. You can certainly ask your doctor about the safety of drinking Fresca, but it does look like there's enough juice in each can to indicate being very cautious if not abstaining altogether.

I wouldn't take the chance, if I were you. Sources: Pharmacology class notes, linked websites .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
