Does La Paz, Bolivia merit the title, 'INSTANT HEADACHE CITY'?

This capital of Bolivia is the highest national capital on Earth at "officially" 13,123 feet above sea level. Supposedly, when tourists exit an aircraft which was pressurized to 8,000 feet during flight, the instantaneous change in barometric pressure to an atmosphere of over 13,000 feet, gives deplaning passengers an "instant headache."If this is indeed true, is there anything I can do (perhaps some kind of "breathing exercises? ") prior to disembarking the jet, that will lessen (or even prevent) this temporary headache?

I understand that, as soon as your body adapts to the change in altitude, that the headache eventually goes away, but I'd really prefer to PREVENT the headache altogether, or to make it into a "quickie."If you have ever visited La Paz, Bolivia, and have personally experienced this phenomenon, do you have any advice for me? From my limited experience(18,200 ft malyas) Hydration is crucial at altitude. And limiting sodium intake has been shown to have a positive effect. Other than that altitude illness has little rhyme or reason. In Nepal,we had to bring down one of our native Sherpa porters(who’m you’d think, would be naturally acclimatized)as he’d developed a headache that disabled him.

If at all possible(excursions? )try to get down a thousand feet early & come back up. That's what serious mountaineers do, their mantra "climb high, sleep low".

In the 000 ft up to 13,000 ft,come back sleep at 11,000,next day push for 14,000,sleep at 13,000 .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
