They need a LOT of brushing and combing. Every day is best unless you want a shaved dog. Their eyes often need to be cleaned around.

Their ears need to be checked regularly, maybe once a week, to see if an infection is brewing (lots of gunk in the ear and/or a bad smell). Their nails need regular attention. You need to keep the hair out of the eyes.

You may want a ":sanitary trim" on your pet to keep poop from sticking to its butt fur and to keep pee from stinking up the underneath area. Your groomer can do this for you and also trim the hair between the pads of the feet. Aside from these maintenance things, your vet may tell you more, depending upon your particular dog's breeding and health.
