Does the Mini Cooper automobile require higher octane gasoline?

My wife is looking for a new car and really likes the Mini. However, when we were at another dealer test driving cars last night she mentioned the Mini and the dealer (NOT a Mini dealer) said to rethink it because it requires 93 octane. I bounced around the web and I find conflicting answers.
