Personally, if you KNOW that you have a good chance of passing on a SERIOUS issue to your offspring, I think that it is irresponsible and selfish to have children. That said, ALL people (like ALL living things) carry a variety of defective genes. Genetics is always a crapshoot.

We can study family trees and calculate the odds, but they're still just odds and you're still just gambling. A favorite quote I like to use: I defy any human couple to have 8 children and have the all be perfectly healthy in mind and body - no glasses, no braces, no personality issues, no health problems. But that's what we as breeders are expected to do every time we have a litter.

Sorry to Hear about your Mum Difficult one our family have a serious heart defect 7 children were born with it my mum being one of them and the doctors told her not to have any children because of the Risk of passing it on. My mum had 3 children and sadly it was passed onto me my 4 children have been tested and there heart is fine so even though it was a 50% chance of me passing it onto my children I still had children but looking at our family history only 7 out of a huge number in our family had it so I did go ahead . I think if you have a really serious genetic disorder which meant that you passed it onto your children like Parkinson's for Instance then you should think very carefully about having children I do know a family near me that went onto have 4 children that ended up having a BOne marrow transplant to save there lives both parents were carriers of a genetic condition but still went ahead and had children The children are ok now but had it not been the fact bone marrow doners were found then the children would of Died I think every one has to be guided by specialists in there decision to have children with any kind of genetic condition with all the fertility treatment you can have now a days genetic Diseases can be screened for.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
