DVD player is having trouble playing disks, as if the disks were scratched. It happens on all DVD's, and I am certain it is the player rather than the disks. Is there a way to clean or repair this problem?
I know DVD players are very inexpensive these days, but I really like all the features and functionality of this unit. I have looked arounf and tried many other models, but have never been satisfied with the menu options, the form factor of the remote, and all the features and functions (one of which they have been phasing out is being able to display the remaining time on the title and chapter). Can anyone suggest any tips on repairing it or cleaning it?
I am not afraid to open the unit and dig in. Is there anything I need to be cautious of? Asked by dwdrums 56 months ago Similar questions: DVD player trouble playing disks scratched Computers > Hardware > Desktops & Laptops.

Most likely ou have a dirty lens Just like good old record players, CD's and DVD players have a needle, in DVD cases the need is a laser emitter and receiver. The most likely cause of your problem is dirty heads. I would try too things, the first is the cheapest, compressed air.
This is cheap and you can pick it up at any store photo supply store or best buy. If using the long red noozle doesn't solve your problem you are going to have to spend more. The next step is a cleaning kit.
This is a liquid cleaner and brushes, the brushes will remove the stuff that air hasn't been able to dislodge. I have to admit I purchased my last lens cleaner years ago at Radioshack and it still works, but the prices have really come down, AMAZON. COM has them as cheap as $5, so you might just want to get both, you can never have too much compressed air, at at these prices I would just get both and try air first and use the brush based system second.

Try opening it up. You will see that the mechanism is very simple. If you have ever opened up a cd-rom drive, it is very similar.
There is the gear and motor to drive the tray. There is a mechanism to lift the disk into position close to the heads and a motor to move the heads sideways as it tracks the disk. Then there is a motor to spin the disk.
Leave everything plugged in (I know, not typical electronics practice, but there is little risk of electric shock), and insert a disk, so you can see how the mechanism moves. You will notice that it is not very robust, and maybe even sort of designed to fail eventually. In my experience the mechanism that lifts the disk up is most prone to failure. It uses a set of gears, pulleys and sliding bearing to create the motion.
Sometimes the pulley cable, which looks like a rubber band, becomes slick or dusty. If you wipe it with a q-tip moistened with alcohol, that should help. Also, cleaning the pulley wheels should help too.
Also, sometimes the sliding rails become dry or dusty. You should be able to see a few globs of white lubricant here and there. Take a toothpick and smear a glob in the rails, to reduce friction.
I have resuscitated more than one cd and dvd player this way. Sometimes though, you can see the disk load up and start spinning normally, but the head just hunts back and forth, looking for the TOC (or whatever) and not finding it. This happened to me once, and it turned out the laser had burned out.
In any case, there was nothing mechanical wrong with it, and the mechanics are the only thing you have a chance of fixing. Hope this helps!.
Probably just dvd player gets old I'm having the same problem, same dvd plays perfectly fine on windows computer, but would randomly pause or freeze a few seconds in my 5 years old dvd player. I suspect that just DVD player gets old, and have difficulty processing these new DVD. DVD players are so cheap now, it's not worth time to fix it.It's time to get a new DVD player.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
