The old Ford 6.9-7.3 or a Cummins diesel will almost never die if you take care of them. If you want absolute reliability and can handle having a bit less power, look for one that isn't turbocharged.

Military grade engines and even they break from time to time. The only ones that don't are in Museums . They don't break because they do not run.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
