I haven't seen any evidence to support that having pain relief during labour might lead to increased chance of drug use by your child in later life, but it can mean a groggier baby if it is administered quite late on and hasn't worn off.
I would not go for an epidural myself as the chance of requiring further intervention to give birth is greatly increased by about 50%. Some women who have a long labour though find they are useful in allowing them some rest to save their energy for the delivery. Try other methods of pain relief first, epidural should be the last option as it can stop you feeling anything and might hinder the birth process if your labour develops quicker than expected.
Its a personal choice really based on your developing labour and how you are feeling.
I had epidural. Some time you can't really choose what to have, the decision is made by your doctor. For me personally doesn't matter because I want it natural but I had to have cesarean.
Once I hold the baby I realize that doesn't really matter.
I have had a natural childbirth and I was glad I did. I only used gas and air during my labour. From what I've read and been told, having an epidural means you aren't in control of your body and it raises the chance of a caesarian.
Some studies also suggest that having any drugs during labour can lead to a much groggier baby after birth and a higher chance of drug use later in life.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
